State Rep. Parker Fairbairn, R-Harbor Springs today released the following statement thanking first responders and local communities for their swift response to the significant winter storm that hit Northern Michigan and Upper Peninsula communities earlier this month:
“I want to thank the many first responders, plow crews, and local officials who acted quickly and effectively during what many are calling ‘Snowmaggedon.’ Their preparation and coordination helped ensure that residents stayed safe and that our communities were able to return to normal as quickly as possible.
“While last spring’s ice storm resulted in more severe damage, it also provided important lessons. Because of those experiences, our communities were better prepared to respond to this most recent storm.
“Local leaders deserve great credit for learning from the challenges faced during last year’s ice storm and enhancing their response capabilities, so that power was restored quickly, roads are being cleared efficiently, and recovery efforts are moving forward with minimal disruption even with the massive amount of snow accumulation this month.
“I’m grateful to everyone who played a role in the response and recovery. Their dedication and hard work have made a real difference for Northern Michigan families.”
People struggling to connect with local resources or looking for more information on recovery efforts can call Fairbairn’s office at 517-373-2629 or email at ParkerFairbairn@house.mi.gov.
