State Rep. Phil Green will host a pair of townhall events on new green energy laws and what they may mean for local communities and residents on Monday, Feb. 26 and Monday, March 4.

Green will specifically discuss changes to local control for wind and solar siting projects that were signed into law in November through Public Acts 233 and 234 of 2023. Doors for both townhalls will open at 5:30 p.m. with event speakers starting at 6 p.m. The event on Feb. 26 will take place at the Forest Township Library, located at 123 W. Main Street in Otisville. The event on March 4 will take place at the Metamora Historical Society Old Town Hall, located at 26 E. High Street, Dryden Road in Metamora.

“As an elected representative, part of my job involves keeping people informed on new laws and how they will impact our communities, workers and families,” Green said. “Local control is a key issue facing our state, and several bills during the current legislative term have attempted to re-determine how our local areas make decisions. That has a big impact for people and their neighbors. These will be informative discussions, and I invite anyone who is interested to attend.”

With the new laws, the Michigan Public Services Commission would be positioned to potentially make decisions on large-scale solar and wind energy projects that go against the input of residents and communities. The plans were contained in House Bills 5120-21 prior to becoming law.
